Mocha Birthday Cake for My BIG Brother

Today is my older brother, Bryan's birthday. Since he loves drinking coffee I thought I'd make him a Mocha Birthday Cake. Its a Mocha Chiffon Cake with Mocha Buttercream Icing.

I took me 2 night to finish it with ease first I baked the cake on Monday. Tuesday night I made the Mocha Buttercream Icing and decorate the cake. Its my first time to make Buttercream Frosting so while I was making the Buttercream my mind is panicking I kept thinking "Why? Why must you make Buttercream? Ekk.. you can't mest this up!" Luckily it turned out great! After I made it I felt so good its so easy to do! Got excited with my decorating I forgot that I planned to do Ruffle Borders on the bottom of the cake, well I end up doing Shell boarders on both top and bottom of the cake. I had a left over of Chocolate Sprinkles since I can't remember, they still taste okay so I sprinkle it on top. I can't seem to get the hang of my pastry comb, did it over and over till I got the passable look. Well as you can see from the picture my decorating skills need improvement.

During our traditional birthday dinners, my mom had a take out from Super Bowl all those yummy Chinese food! We had Yang Chow Fried Rice (my little brother's fav), Chix Feet (birthday boy's fav), KFC chicken(everyone's fav), ohh.. siomai with chili sauce, wide sellection of stir fries, and of course its not a Chinese birthday without somekind of noodles for long life, in this case ChaMi. Mom even made her famous miso soup. We're all soooo..stuffed!

After that delicious dinner its time for DESSERT! As a tradition in our family the birthday celebrant cuts the cake. After all my preparation for the cake I forgot to make one important step! I forgot to take it out of the ref minutes earlier!!! The buttercream filling in the middle is still firm! Oh gosh! it ruined the entire feel and texture of the cake! Well...we all learn from our mistakes ... next time I'll see to it to remember that last step :)

Last but not the least, our official family birthday photo! and of course opening of presents!!! Ohhh... I always love birthdays!!! All the planning and the excitement, adrenaline pumping!
