XOXO Cookies

After my disastrous and tiring cookie decorating the last time, I learned that making and decorating cookies is definitely NOT a one day turn around project. Now I made plans 1 day to make my dough, cut them out and chill them. Next was baking, all day I did was bake my pre-cut cookies. While baking them off, this gave me time to ponder what colors should I use. Since it's still February, I think sweet pastel colors would be excellent. Lastly decorating day came! For making my royal icing, I turn to my favorite cookie blog Sweetopia. Marian the owner of this awesome blog is so good at what she does I'm so envious! Good thing is she is very generous with her tips and tricks. She even has videos youtube to better help us beginners.
The icing recipe calls for so much icing sugar! That's when I remember why I don't make decorated cookies often, they are way too sweet!! But since one of my new goal this year is practice my piping skills I went ahead and make the recipe verbatim. Marian's 10 minute rule really helps, I got a better result follow her instructions.
For coloring the royal icing, instead of using my usual Wilton or Chef Master, I bit the bullet and try my hands on AmeriColor. A good advantage of using this is that the color bleeds less, compared to other brands. I personally cannot say of this is true or not since I have't use it a marbling effect, maybe soon. Other advantage of using this is it comes in these tiny squeezable bottles, I find it easier to use less finicky compare to using lots and lots of toothpicks just to get the desired color. Another fav tool I just discovered are the CK squeeze bottles. They are very handy and transparent so you can easily see the the colors.
Some people say that cookie decorating is therapy very relaxing??? Ugh...not for me. I find cookie decorating very tedious however the sense of accomplishment after making various design is very exhilarating! It makes anyone look like a star! So quick grab your apron and make some decorated cookies! Just be sure to plan ahead of time, so you wouldn't feel like a truck ran over you after.
